Mountainside NJ Eluding Charges
02 September, 2014
By admin

Route 22 is a major highway that runs through Union County and leads to a large amount of motor vehicles stops. The quiet town of Mountainside hosts a stretch of the highway and sometimes a routine traffic stop can quickly turn into a dangerous situation. That is exactly what happened in the early hours of the morning when Mountainside Lt. Allan Attanasio pulled over a man for speeding around 4 a.m. on Route 22 West near Glenside Avenue. During the stop, the officer observed an ammunition magazine on the defendant’s car seat, at which time the man attempted to flee, according to police.

Subsequently, the defendant assaulted the officer as he tried to prevent him from fleeing. Then then led to a pursuit down Route 22 west which took officers into North Plainfield where the defendant was eventually stopped. Police said during the pursuit the defendant allegedly threw the ammunition magazine from the car. Surprisingly, police have not been able to find it even after searching the area three times since the incident. When the defendant was finally stopped, he did not have any weapons in his possession.

The defendant was charged with third degree resisting arrest, fourth degree aggravated assault and fourth degree destruction of evidence and the most serious charge of second degree eluding, which is punishable by 5 – 10 years in state prison if convicted.
